Handover ceremony of the fifth built on AZCON Baku Shipyard tanker "Dostlug" of RST12C project with participation of Presidents of Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan
On June 22, 2026 handover ceremony of the fifth 7875 t DWT built on AZCON Baku Shipyard tanker "Dostlug" of RST12C project held with the participation of President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov. Tanker "Dostlug" has been gifted by Azerbaijan to Turkmenistan to strengthen Azerbaijan–Turmenistan friendship.
Builder of RST12C “Dostlug” tanker is AZCON Baku Shipyard.
"Azerbaijan Transport and Communications Holding (AZCON)" public legal entity was established pursuant to the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Ilham Aliyev, dated November 7, 2024. AZCON's main goals are to manage state-owned enterprises, economic entities with partial state ownership and public legal entities entrusted to its management in accordance with modern corporate governance principles, and to increase their competitiveness and financial sustainability.
Baku Shipyard is building three more tankers of 7875 t DWT RST12C project under ABS supervision.
Designer of RST12C project is Marine Engineering Bureau.
In 2020 British Royal Institution of Naval Architects (RINA) included leading RST12C tanker "Lachin", built for Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping (ASCO) at Baku Shipyard, in Significant Ships of 2019 list (50 best ships which were built in the world in 2019). According to the RINA rules, experts study only the leading vessels (for each shipyard), put into operation past year.
It was especially noted in RINA editorial article that the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliev took part in the solemn ceremony of putting in operation the first built in Azerbaijan RST12C tanker "Lachin".
River-sea RST12C tankers have an enhanced 'Caspian' function:
• with "Caspian" draught of 4.54 m the deadweight is 7875 tons (RST27 project has a deadweight of 7030 tons), increase of 845 tons;
• capacity of cargo tanks is designed to carry oil products from the Caspian region and has been increased by raising the trunk to 9190 m³ (RST27 has 8100 m³), i.e. by 1090 m³.
Overall length is 141.00 m, width is 16.9 m, depth is 6.0 m, trunk height is 1.75 m.
The cargo system is designed for simultaneous transportation of two types of cargo, with 6 x 200 m³/h cargo pumps.
The main engines are two 1200 kW medium-speed diesel engines, each running on IFO380 heavy fuel. The thruster is 230 kW.
The power plant consists of three 350 kW diesel generators and a 150 kW emergency standby diesel generator.
Crew - 11 people, seats - 14 + pilot. Autonomy (sea/river) - 20 / 12 days.
