Two dry-cargo vessels were launched at the same shipyard for "ALBROS" company. This event is worth Guinness World Records


Two dry-cargo vessels, i.e. "Azov Concord" with DW 8020 tons and "Modulus 1" with DW 4560 tons were launched at "Aksoy Shipyard" Gelibolu, Turkey for ALBROS company (Raim Alekperov is a general director).
 
"Azov Concord" is the fourth in the series of multi-purpose dry cargo motorships with deadweight of 8020 tons (sea draught) of Marine Engineering Bureau (MEB) RSD12 prj. (conception of "Azov XL").
 
The vessel belongs to "Azov Max" type due to MEB internal classification. Principal particulars (overall length is of 142.00 m, overall width is of 18.20 m) are defined by sailing conditions of shallow water at Russian Azov ports without sailing through locks of Volga-Don canal.
 
Vessel it is optimized for work with draughts of 3.8-4.5 m. With draught of 4.77 m maximum deadweight is of 8020 tons, with draught of 4.50 m deadweight is of 7400 tons.
 
Cargo transportations' increasing through shallow water ports of Azov sea (Taganrog, Mariupol, Yeysk, Rostov-on-Don, Berdyansk and others) caused necessity to design the project of the dry cargo vessel adapted for operation conditions in the mentioned pool.
 
The basic feature of Azov Sea and its ports is small depth of fairways and near ports' waterside. RSD12 prj. vessel was designed to get maximum deadweight and at the same time to get good enough sea-going and operational characteristics for transportation cargoes from the ports of Azov Sea to the ports of Europe, Asia Minor and Northern Africa.
 
Absence of requirements on a maximum dimension has allowed to develop essentially more aesthetic high aft superstructure, than on vessels of the river - sea type.
 
The dry cargo vessel is assigned for transportation of general, bulk, timber, grain and large-sized cargoes, 8'.5 and 9' ISO containers, dangerous goods of 1.4S, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 classes of IMDG Code and cargoes of category B of BC Code.
 
The vessel has four holds with total capacity of 10930 m³. All holds are of equal sizes and capacity, box-shaped, smooth-wall, convenient for carrying out the freight works and placing a cargo without shifting. The cargo holds' size is 24.70x13.2x8.37 m that allows to arrange three levels of containers with height up to 9'. Holds are provided with hatch covers of "folding" type which can allow to arrange timber cargo with height of 2.5 m or one level of containers with maximum weight.
 
The double bottom is designed for distributed load intensity of 10.0 t/m² that allows to transport heavy metal products, and also allow to use a bucket grab with cargo-lifting capacity 16 tons.
 
Longitudinal framing system was used for deck, sides and bottom at the middle part of the vessel. At the same time transverse frame value was increased and longitudinal one was decreased. All the changes provide more full participation of shell plate in the overall bending, also better local loading's resistance during mooring and keeping of comprehensible appearance.
 
Russian Maritime Register of Shipping class is of KM LU1 II A1.
 
Movement and maneuverability of the vessel is provided by two stern full-circle rudder propellers with variable-pitch propeller without nozzles. The drive from main engines to rudder propellers is carried out through mechanical Z-gearing.
 
Vessel's cruising speed is of 11.0 kn.
 
Proceeding from results of resistance definition by CFD simulation methods medium-speed diesels were chose as main engines with maximum specification continuous capacity of 2x1520 kw. Main engines use heavy fuel oil with viscosity of 380cSt.
 
Heavy fuel stores are placed in deep-tanks in area of the ER fore bulkhead.
 
Tanks are separated by double bottom and double sides from outside water, thus excluding contact of heavy fuel with outside water.
 
The dry cargo vessel electric plant due to using of variable-pitch propellers consists of two shaft generators with capacity of 400 kw each, and also diesel - generators with capacity of 2x146 kw and one emergency diesel-generator with capacity of 81 kw.
 
The vertical deep-tanks placed between holds are used as ballast tanks. Deep-tanks' usage allowed to exclude under-deck "pockets" in holds. Thus allowed to place cargoes in the holds without shifting and improve conditions of stripping the holds.
 
Deep-tanks and large enough double sides allowed to mount dry compartments in the double bottom, but without using them as ballast tanks. It decreases weight of double bottom's metal construction and increases a life time of anticorrosive covering. It is necessary to mark, that double bottom's compartments are the least maintainable and excluding of taking ballast in them gives real economic benefit during carrying out the surveys and vessel's repair in the further operation.
 
Total ballast tanks capacity is of 3130 m³. Double side's breadth is of 2400 mm. Double bottom's height is of 1200 mm.
 
Bow thruster capacity is of 216 kWt.
 
Crew consists of 14 persons. Autonomy is of 20 day.
 
Keel of "Azov Concord" (building number is of H-33) was laid down on 30.12.06. She was launched on 01.03.08.
 
There are going to be four vessels in the series.
 
First three vessels of "Azov Max" class are being successfully operated by ALBROS shipping company.
 
Another vessel that was launched on March, 3 at "Aksoy Shipyard" is "Modulus 1" (building number is of H-31). She is the first vessel modified due to the project 003RSD04/ALB03. This project was designed by the Marine Engineering Bureau (MEB) (the initial project) and company ALBROS (project updating). Gennadiy Ukhanov and Pavel Kryukov supervised project updating from company ALBROS side.
 
Vessel's Russian Maritime Register of shipping (RS) class is of KM LU3 I A3.
 
Vessel's overall length is of 89.2 m, breadth is of 15.6 m, depth is of 6.80 m.
 
"Modulus 1" hull's theoretical forms were defined using CFD simulation methods carried out by Digital Marine Technology company (Boris Stankov is a director).
 
Deadweight is of 4563 tons when draught in salt water is of 5.29 m. Total ballast tank capacity is of 2066 m³.
 
The single vessel's hold is box-shaped, smooth-wall, convenient for carrying out the freight works and placing a cargo without shifting.
 
The cargo hold's size is of 55.9x12.7x8.0m with vessel's effective length of 84.56 m. Cargo hold capacity is of 5486 m³.
 
Because of such function 003RSD04/ALB03 prj. vessels are convenient for equipment delivery to intensive development of Caspian shelf zone. Non-standard cargo places can be delivered without reloading from any European port or from any Persian Gulf's area port through internal ways of the Russian Federation to Caspian Sea.
 
Special scheme of vessel's compartments was designed to satisfy SOLAS requirements to probability index for ship subdivision for possibility of arrange single cargo hold. Tank plan foresees special arrangement of ballast tanks in double bottom and double sides and dry compartment in double bottom with presence of through-flowing pipes which provides minimum list when the hull is damaged.
 
The hull strength is ensured even with non-uniform cargo placing at any position inside the hold.
 
Hatch covers of "Lift-away" type were mounted. Operation with sections of hatch covers is carried out using gantry crane that moves on rails which are mounted on the flange of hatch coaming.
 
Capacity of single-screw engine with variable-pitch propeller and shaft generator is of 1470 kw.
 
Good manoeuvrability in river, shallow water, in the constrained conditions is ensured because of comparative small length and presence of bow thruster.
 
Crew consists of 9 persons (11 places).
 
"Modulus 1" (building number is of H-31) keel was laid down on 07.07.07. She was launched on 03.03.08.
