The eighth dry cargo vessel of "Karelia" type was launched
On August, 27, 2007 the Onega shipyard (Vladimir Mayzoos is a general director) launched the ninth multi-purpose dry cargo river-sea going vessel of "Karelia" type with deadweight in the river/sea of 3330/5490 tons with two full-circle rudder propellers to the "Neva Shipping Company".
Vessel's name is "MEKHANIK KOVALENKO".
Neva shipping company is the customer.
Flag is of the Russian Federation. St. Petersburg is the port of registry.
Dry cargo vessel project 005RSD03 is designed by the Marine Engineering Bureau (MEB).
"MEKHANIK KOVALENKO" is the fourth vessel in a series which was modified for work on heavy fuel with viscosity till 380 сSt (masout).
The vessel has got higher class: II instead of IISP.
The shipowner started the reequipment on heavy fuel of the first five vessels of the project.
Project belongs due to MEB internal classification to the vessels which are destined for "Sormovskiy" / "Volga-Balt" type replacement.
Vessel "MEKHANIK KOVALENKO" is assigned for transportation of general, bulk, timber, grain and large-sized cargoes, 8'.5 and 9' ISO containers, dangerous goods of 1.4S, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 classes and cargoes of category B of BC Code.
The vessel is going to be used on internal waterways of the Russian Federation's European part, including Volga-Don canal and Volga-Baltic way, and also in sea areas according vessel's class, including operation in Baltic, North, Black, Azov, Caspian and Mediterranean Seas.
Vessel's Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS) class is of KM LU2 II A3.
Vessel's overall length is of 108.3 m, length between perpendiculars is of 102.2 m, breadth is of 16.5 m, depth is of 5.5 m.
Deadweight is of 5490 tons when sea draught is of 4.792 m.
Deadweight is of 3330 tons with the draught of 3.60 m in the river.
Capacity of three cargo holds is of 7840 m³.
All holds are box-shaped, smooth-wall, convenient for carrying out the freight works and placing a cargo without shifting.
The cargo holds' sizes are of 21.45 x 12.7 m (hold No. 1), 27.3 x 12.7 (hold No. 2) and 26.55 x 12.7 m (hold No. 3) with the height of 8.3 m.
Hatch covers are of removable type (with gantry crane of Yuriy Vorob'ev project). Crew consists of 9 persons (11 places).
Cruising speed is of 11.5 kn.
Capacity of main engines is of 2 x 1020 kW.
Movement and manoeuvrability of the vessel is provided by two stern full-circle variable-pitch rudder propellers in nozzles. The drive from main engines to rudder propellers is carried out through mechanical Z-gearing.
Designed vessel hull' life term is of 24 years.
The ship steel of category RSD with a yield limit of 235 MPa was accepted for basic hull constructions.
The double bottom is designed for distributed load intensity of 7.5 t/m² that allows to use a bucket grab with cargo-lifting capacity 16 tons.
Autonomy in sea is of 20 days, in river it is of 15 days.
Vessel's keel was laid down on 10.05.06. She was launched on 24.08.07.
It is supposed to build eleven vessels of this project in total.
